Every day, people resolve to make a beginning for a better life. They promise themselves that they will start, change, shift and redraft their story into a larger story which will take them into better existence.
Even if life is good, the possibility always exists to make it better. God wants us to have great lives. In fact, He wants us to live larger than life. When we talk of living larger than life, many questions need to be answered. What story we are living? What kind of story is it? Is it a story that you feel glad to have lived? Will you, when old, look back down the years without regret? These are important questions.
Many people feel as if their lives have not really begun yet. They wait for the right occasion and conditions. Others feel as though it is all over already. Some have a sense of purpose, but many feel their lives are disjointed, inconsequential or seriously compromised.
We think that our own lives are not so great. Whether our lives amount to anything or not depends upon whether we find the courage to put them in the service of a large story.
A large story brings a large task, the task of transforming energies into the driving power for the salvation. Being part of the large story is what is meant by being on right path.
The large story of spreading peace and harmony in the world, of constructive and spirited response to obstacles encountered, and of harmony and co-operation, is what invites us to take refuge in. Without such a path of selflessness, we will remain unable to rise to participate in the large story.
